Effects of the Incidents in Japan on Videor and its Customers

Dear Business Partner,

We are observing the developments in Japan with great concern. Videor has maintained very close contact to its partners in Japan since the company was founded. Consequently the catastrophe has deeply touched us, and all Videor employees feel great sympathy with the victims of the devastating earthquake.

Despite the vast extent of the destruction, we are gratified that all of our Japanese partners have reported that their employees and their families are relatively well given the circumstances, and no one has suffered serious injuries.

In spite of this, the situation is critical and damage has occurred at some office complexes, production sites and employee houses. The damage to our partner’s production sites is assessed as not being serious, and production has been resumed in the majority of cases. However, the damage to the infrastructure has created problems at many locations. As matters stand at the moment, we expect that our ability to deliver as a consequence of the catastrophe is only slightly affected, as nearly all of our Japanese suppliers have built up production capacities outside of Japan and can fall back on buffer stocks. Nevertheless, we have already taken all action we can to prevent delivery bottlenecks and will of course keep you up-to-date on changes as they happen.

We have already ascertained that production downtimes and delivery bottlenecks at some of our competitors have resulted in increased orders being placed at Videor. We are attempting to meet this increased demand together with our partners on the manufacturer side, but we ask for your understanding that a corresponding expansion of production capacities requires a certain lead time.

In addition to questions raised on our ability to deliver, we are increasingly confronted with questions on the radioactive contamination of Japanese products. We estimate there is no reason for concern, based upon information provided to use from the responsible government agencies as well as our contracted hauliers. They have informed us that they are fulfilling their tasks and exercising their responsibilities in implementing appropriate checks to ensure that no products contaminated by radiation are made available on the market. For instance, all airfreight shipments from Japan are currently examined for radioactive contamination.
